Dr Absalom Themba Dlamini reminded staff of the importance of staying healthy and maintain a good balance between work and their general well-being.
The organisation has engaged a wellness consultant to establish a wellness programme aimed at encouraging staff to stay healthy in all aspects of their social, professional and emotional lives. Dr Dlamini said the organisation fully supported this initiative and pledged management’s commitment. He said that staff was an organisation’s most priced and valuable asset, and as such, Tibiyo Taka Ngwane welcomed the proposal to set up the programme. He then warned staff not to take physical activity for granted. Staying healthy increases your lifespan and improves productivity, Dr Dlamini said. “Don’t wait until you fall sick. Start now. Jog around your neighbourhood, join a gym or get into the habit of taking walks. For example, I have made it my habit that from time to time I leave my car and walk around my property. So, you have no excuse for not keeping fit,†said Dr Dlamini.
Following the launch, a multi-department wellness committee has been set up to drive the initiative. Representatives received a comprehensive orientation facilitated by the consultant. A wellness office has since been established at Lomawa House to provide staff with comfort, convenience and privacy to share and receive wellness services such as screenings and counselling. Experts have already been invited to provide services. Dr Dlamini said the organisation was open to staff suggestions on how the programme could be strengthened to meet their wellness requirements.
